Lite-On Displays NVMe M.2 PCIe Solid-State Drives at the Open Compute Project Summit 2016
Lite-On SSDs enables efficiency for hyperscale data centers
San Jose, CA, March 8, 2016 --- Lite-On Storage Group, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of solid-state drives (SSDs) will be showcasing its latest enterprise and client storage solutions at the San Jose Convention Center this year for the Open Compute Project (OCP) U.S. Summit.
The Open Compute Project (OCP) is specifically designed to standardize hyperscale solutions, building the most efficient servers, storage, and data center infrastructure with the greatest operational cost savings. As a leader in the storage industry, Lite-On will share its array of solid-state solutions to reduce operational complexity in the scalable computing space at the summit. As enterprise companies grow, scaling can be challenging. However, Lite-On's PCIe M.2 solution helps hyperscale data centers and enterprise organizations with unique workloads such as running cloud applications, data caching, and booting, which can create latency challenges for storage devices.
At OCP, business leaders can get a close look at Lite-On's most advanced SSD for these hyperscale environments, particularly the drive in the M.2 form factor. Lite-On's PCIe M.2 solid-state drives are currently adopted and used by one of the world's largest cloud service providers. The M.2 is the size of a stick of gum, reducing the datacenter's footprint. As a high-density drive, it allows more SSDs to be integrated into a single server. With low power consumption and a small form factor, the drive requires less cooling (airflow demand) which further reduces the total cost of ownership. Lite-On's M.2 solution also offers power loss protection, end-to-end data protection, high endurance and sustained performance.
Lite-On Storage continues to invest heavily in its research and development. In Q3 2015, it announced the latest next generation NVMe M.2 SSD and recently launched its U.2 NVMe 2.5-inch SSD. As the needs in storage increase, upgrading datacenter hardware is a must to keep up with customer acquisition. The U.2 form factor is hot swappable, making upgrades or replacement more efficient and easy.
"We are excited to participate at OCP this year. According to one study, over 50 trillion GBs of data will be consumed in 2020 and behind the number, there's a platform that supports the data explosion," said Darlo Perez, Managing Director of Lite-On Americas. "Lite-On storage will be at the head of that growth, and continue to support the storage built onto this platform. We are committed and continually invest in R&D to deliver the best SSD, meeting the growing demand."
